From a regional NGO to a scientific benchmark for Brazil’s coastal wildlife.

1. CONTEXT
For 26 years, R3 Animal has rescued, rehabilitated, and returned marine animals and seabirds along the Brazilian coast to the ocean, combining this work with scientific research and environmental education. As a member of the UN Global Compact and a partner of institutions such as IBAMA, Univali, and Petrobras, it operates in a context of growing urgency, as pollution, habitat degradation, and climate change put increasing pressure on coastal biodiversity. Bolden took on the project pro bono, driven by a belief in the importance of this cause.

2. CHALLENGE
Over the course of these 26 years, R3 Animal evolved from a broader organization that also worked with terrestrial animals into one specialized in coastal ecosystems, but the brand did not evolve with it. It needed to reflect the organization’s scientific and institutional maturity without losing its ability to engage the general public, translating highly technical work into accessible language.

3. SOLUTION
The identity system is built around a symbol that subtly and abstractly incorporates “R3”, using geometric forms that evoke the marine fauna and seabirds of Brazil’s coast. The symbol expands into representations of different species and supports a modular visual universe of illustrations, textures, and colors inspired by coastal ecosystems. The language balances scientific precision with expressiveness, allowing the brand to speak equally to researchers and educators and to society at large.

4. RESULTS
R3 Animal now has a brand that matches the impact it creates. Over the past two years, the organization has recorded an average of 3,454 marine wildlife incidents per year in Florianópolis, received 422 animals for rehabilitation, and returned 197 to the ocean, including Magellanic penguins and South American fur seals. With the new identity, this work now has clearer, more recognizable communication that strengthens R3’s differentiation in the sector and provides a stronger foundation for new partnerships and fundraising.
